However one of the friends from that concert, Geri, decides that the truth needs to come out because she is pregnant with Jack’s child, but then the person that decided to keep things quiet, Sheila, has that friend killed and covers up the murder as an accident in a fire. So they move to the United States, get married and have children, have a happy life.

One of the characters (now going under name of Jack), perhaps out of guiltiness and mutual attraction, decides to befriend and get into an intimate relationship with one of the massacre’s biggest survivors: Grace. So then the friends each decide to change their names their looks and then go into hiding. Trying to more or less save their own skin and cover up any financial losses, the group of friends decides to not disclose that they were the cause of the shooting and pin the blame on someone else that fired shots that day. The fight gets really bad, and a cop fires shots to disrupt the fight…but ends up causing a massive uproar and a bunch of people get killed due to being trampled in the chaos. The actual plot of this book basically starts with 5 friends watching two friends from two different bands having a fight over who has the rights to a song just mirror moments before the start of the big concert backstage. But despite that, I think I really liked it. While I am no stranger to any of his books, having read both Tell No One and The Stranger and having watched his TV show Safe on Netflix, I feel that none of those adventures ever captured the level of dark and gritty and the depressing tone that this book has. OK… This might have to be one of the most depressing Harlan Coben novels I have ever read.
